Yestersol – Bandname of the Week (01/12/15)

This week’s band name is: Yestersol. This idea came from a book I’m reading – The Martian by Andy Weir. Apparently, Mars has ~25 hour days, and a day on Mars is counted as one “sol.” (I”m assuming this is a reference to our sun, which is named Sol.) So a “yestersol” is the day more...

Woebegone Boys – Bandname of the Week (01/05/15)

This week’s band name is: Woebegone Boys. This might be a good name for a bluegrass band? I don’t know. Webster says the following: woe·be·gone adjective \ˈwō-bi-ˌgȯn also -ˌgän\ – looking or feeling very sad 1 : strongly affected with woe : woeful 2a : exhibiting great woe, sorrow, or misery (a woebegone expression) 2b more...

After Action Report – Kentlands Mansion

Last November, The Capitol Heights invaded Montgomery County, Maryland. We didn’t accidentally write a national anthem like the last time Maryland was invaded, but at least there was music, food, and a great venue. The Kentlands Mansion neighbors the Arts Barn in Gaithersburg, and many of the activities on their website seem to discuss them more...

After Action Report – Soho

Let’s catch up on blogging and let’s talk Soho. This open mic is located in the midst of Dupont Circle, and is open on Saturday once a month. It’s a pity that we didn’t play it earlier, because it’s a solid open mic located in a primo-spot. It’s also right next to Bier Baron and more...

The Ne’er-Do-Wells – Bandname of the Week (12/05/14)

This week’s band name is: The Ne’er-Do-Wells. I’ve found some other bands with similar names, which always bugs me b/c I’ve independently came up with it. It’s like, both the vikings and Columbus discovered America…can’t we share the credit? Although this is what most band naming sessions are like anyway….somebody else has always done it! more...

The Rumble Pack – Bandname of the Week (12/08/14)

This week’s band name is: The Rumble Pack. I was recently playing a Nintendo 64 emulator on my phone…and was reminded of that awesome rumbly contraption originally sold alongside Goldeneye. It seems to make an excellent bandname. Let’s rumble, baby. Note: Feel free to use any of our band names. We create all of them more...

The Rapporteurs – Bandname of the Week (11/24/14)

This weeks band name is: The Rapporteurs. From Wikipedia: A rapporteur is a person who is appointed by an organization to report on the proceedings of its meetings. Note that this different from The Raconteurs, the Jack White band from a few years back. It sounds cool tho. Note: Feel free to use any of more...

After Action Report – St. Elmo’s Cafe

Photo credit Joe Holt In our everlasting commitment to the Open Mic Challenge, today we’ll be discussing St. Elmo’s Cafe. A friend of ours used to work there, and I’ve been there many of times. Pipin’ hot coffee with some fancy eatings and they even have quiche. This boutique coffee shop is in the heart more...
